Development Log

• 2022-02-07 — Albino Aurorazhdarcho flight test 07.02.22 — finally raining ceased so I could try out the model, still it was a bit too windy. as it showed a forward sweep wing is very vulnerable to wind. furthermore the model had some deficiencies (too much overweight, not symmetrical) that diminished flight performance. nevertheless, the test flight proves that forward swept wings are capable of efficient flapping flight. the CG should be moved even more forward, for better pitch stability. theres a possibility that the amount of forward sweep is too much than in the original animal, but my aim moving wing much forward, is to some extent that head crest becomes closer to CG for better aerodynamic stabilization. unfortunately the foam material that was used for the new wing and fuselage showed its weakness. although no wing has teared, there are tiny holes from landing on spiny branches that needs to be fixed and head fuselage was broken from many crash.

• 2022-03-21 — Aurorazhdarcho testflight 21.03.22 — this is a smaller aurorazdarcho version without a head. I made a slightly bigger version before because this seemed to be not efficient enough for flight. later I found out the inefficiency of my previous forward-sweep attempt. that is without gullwings lift at upstroke was partly negative. when adding the gull wing , this created also dihedral, and made the pterosaur glide extremely stable. I haven’t made a video of a good long glide, but it is possible, in a gull wing configuration a large head crest is not destabilizing. this version is bit difficult to control, because to steer I need to add negative aileron (strongerwingbeat) together with rudder. only one of both doesn’t make a change of direction. probably the control system must be improved, make a fuselage for this one and strengthen the inwash of wings a bit (to have allow have more stabilizing by dihedral during flapping).
• 2022-08-19 — aurorazhdarcho testflights 13.08 and 24.07 — by slightly more Elevator/Reflex of legs more stability can be achieved, but unfortunately a Wing got damaged before from a Crash..
