- 2023-10-09 — Laser sheet flow visualization Constructive interference on anhedral quadcopter 09.10.23 — According to fluid mechanics and intuition streams that go roughly in the same direction will merge, forming an amplified stream, after some more investigation I found out this effect is called constructive interference, for example when two audio speakers are producing sound in one direction their output volume is summing up, the same phenomena is responsible for rogue wave in the ocean. In this test setup I wanted to test visualize the stream flow on a quadcopter whose propellers are opposing one another at the highest possible angle that still allows merging for maximum outburst. This is my first try at laser sheet imagery and setup is very bad, the laser is too weak, and the smoke used was from a palo santo stick. But the effect can be seen that there is an accelerated stream in the center and fewer turbulences around than on a normal quadcopter, this will work similar to an ion thruster that has weaker force but allows higher speed. In theory Propellers traveling sideways have an „effective pitch“ additional to their normal pitch.
