- 2025-01-21 — Seraphim six-winged Angel Maiden flight 21.01.25 — Seraphim, a six-winged flapter . I’m very happy the maiden went well although the wings were not completely equal and I’m not satisfied by airfoil of the mid and front wing, the structure should have been made even lighter too. However it is easy manoeuvrable and has good thrust. I always wanted to make an angel and this is very rare. The Seraphim are described as having another pair of wings to cover the head and the feet of the angel, which are stabilizing the model, while the center wings have been made largest for flying, The wings are aligned in the same way like dragonfly or butterfly, meaning that front wing have higher AoA, and the flap phase is shifted so that hind wings flap first forming a vacuum at the hind edge of each front wing which accelerates the stream instead of causing turbulence, a shift of flap phase was achieved by allowing the front wing have more freedom to twist at the base and by adding delay through the diagonal spars between the wings. The third pair of wings intensified the vacuum effect, which allows the model to gain speed quickly by more thrust. For more slow flight the wings have been made relatively large and soft enough by 0.8mm carbon spar. Next this model will be painted to appear more angel like and probably there will be another larger version of the model with a stronger servo.
