1175 mm heron with passive articulated head.

Development Log

  • 2025-03-09White Heron (Egretta eulophotes) first testflight with fuselage and passive articulate head 09.03.25 — this model has very low wing loading to mimic the flight of real heron with high lifelikeness. the short tail would be problematic but this has been solved by 1.foward sweep, 2. reflex area on the inner wing. also the outer wing has been constructed to feature in-wash for optimal stream flow. maybe in a next step undercamber will be added for more stable airflow and lift. another novelty in this model is passive articulated head, by bendable parts of the neck using 0.3mm steel wire and thread to the beak, thus the beak and head will be pointing in direction of movement or wind and have less drag. even though this mechanism isnt working perfectly yet it seems to work a little and also prevent the neck from breaking during bad landing. this mechanism couls easily be combined with a small servo to allow active articulation combined with its passive stabilization plus it may be used also pterosaur models coming soon. wingspan: 1175mm length: 786mm weight: 44g motor: 2x BlueArrow D0576HT servos lipo: 100mah 2S lipo flight controller: arduino pro mini
